This is a visibility event in front of Costello’s Wyomissing office –to demand that he vote for the DREAM ACT immediately and oppose the recently proposed deportation bill.
Immigrant communities have been living in terror and DACA youth have been losing protections at a rate of 122/day. Now the so-called “Common Sense Caucus” in the US Senate has proposed a bill that includes $25 billion in funding for a border wall, provisions that bar Dreamers’ parents from adjusting their status, and major changes to the family-based immigration system.
“Make no mistake: this is a mass deportation bill that the immigrant community categorically rejects. Donald Trump created a national crisis by listening to white supremacists and ending DACA,” says Make the Road. “The onus is on him and his fellow Republicans to address that crisis by creating a permanent solution for Dreamers. Democrats, keep your eye on the ball: it is your responsibility to prevent Trump from using the crisis he manufactured to win nativist policies that will further devastate immigrant communities and transform our legal immigration system to make America whiter. We call on Senate Democrats to immediately reject this deal. The bipartisan solution has been clear for months: it’s called the Dream Act.”
