Hosted by Send the Lorax to Washington and Middletown Coalition for Community Safety

We Speak for the Trees is excited to team up with Moms Clean Air Force and Middletown Coalition for Community Safety to announce a “Play-In-and-Lorax-palooza!” An end of the summer party event for the young and old alike! Age doesn’t matter when it comes to protecting our Community and the Earth! We know kids can’t sit still for long so in lieu of “sitting” in we will be playing and dancing to music by Philadelphia based folksy duo, Ants on a Long! There will also be Lorax crafts for kids, face painting, a chance to write a message to your representative in a copy of The Lorax, postcard decorating and writing, poster-making for your next rally all while learning about what we can do to stop the pipeline! Even though things sometimes look gloomy, with The Lorax leading the way, some food, music and friends can always make things better! Several Delaware County Representatives have been invited to come including Leanne Krueger-Braneky (161), Chris Quinn (168), and Greg Vitali (166).

The dangerous 2018 federal budget proposal would gut bedrock pollution protections for our families, including funding for vital air quality monitoring, toxic waste clean-up, holding polluters accountable, and lead poisoning prevention. Cuts to air quality monitoring are of particular concern here in Delaware County where we continue to receive a failing grade for ozone per The American Lung Association’s 2017 State of the Air Report. At jeopardy will likely be our ability to know about and plan for “Code Red” days – badly polluted days when the air is too dangerous for children with asthma to be outdoors.

And at a time when our federal government seems to be prioritizing polluter profit over public health and the environment, the proposed budget recently approved by the Pennsylvania Senate presents another very real threat to our children’s health and well-being, completely undermining some of the only protections we have from fracking pollution. This is particularly troublesome as we work to oppose the Mariner 2 East pipeline here in our own backyard.

When it comes to protecting our children’s health and future, there’s lots of work to be done! But our voices will be that much louder when we join together. Come out and Play-In with us!
